End of Summer Pig Roast and Luau  - October 2nd

The Annual End of Summer Pig Roast and Luau has been re-scheduled to October 2nd from 12-4pm. We'll have pulled pork, chips, drinks and sides. As always, this is a BYOB event (bring your own beverage). Come on down and for a lei and one last dip in the pool. The weather is going to be somewhat unpredictable - so keep checking back here as well as on Facebook for the latest information! 

For our Vegan/Vegetarians neighbors, we will have dietary options for you as well.

Richland HOA Annual Meeting Oct 24th

The Richland HOA annual meeting is scheduled for the evening of October 24th.  Sign-in at 6:30pm, meeting starts at 7pm. The  annual meeting is for the entire Richland HOA community. During this meeting, the HOA board will present the annual budget (spoiler alert - the price of everything has gone up),  address various issues, discuss upcoming major projects and provide an update on accomplishments year to date.

Are you tired of your voice not being heard, not having enough social events or blood drives after dark?   If so, then the Annual Meeting is your chance to to displace the despots that currently serve on the Richland HOA board.  

Richland Halloween and Boo-BASH

Just a few more days until Halloween!  OK... we are still a few days from October, but we are close enough to Halloween to start decorating the outside of your house with tombstones, giant spiders, skeletons, bones, miscellaneous body parts, bats, snakes, snails and puppy dog tails.  Really, whatever you think is scary :).  Richland has a pretty active young adult supernatural community on All Hallow's Eve. Lots of Ghost, Zombies, Vampires as well as a fair mixture of gods/goddesses, superheroes and cartoon characters. We also have a fair number of kids who dress up as high-school students.  I know on Laurel Lake (apologies to my neighbors), we get about 150-200 kids each year.   Your trick-or-treaters may vary - so if you are new to Richland - ask your neighbors for a rough idea of how many kids to expect.   If you are looking for candy recommendations - I think this list pretty much has it covered (particularly 1-5) !

 

For our Zombie and Vampire Neighbors - please try to eat/drink a big meal before trick or treating begins (usually at dusk).  These are your neighbors!  We haven't implemented a new home delivered meals program in Richland!  

 

For those of you new to trick or treating, if you have you lights on, put out decorations or have pumpkins on your porch - you can expect to have kids at your door on October 31st.  If you are allergic to kids, candy, or would just prefer not to participate - your  best option is to turn off all the lights, lock the doors, board up your windows and flee the country for a few days. You'll still have a few knockers, but they'll get the hint soon enough.

 

This year the Social Committee has gone above and beyond to make sure you get the most use out of your Halloween Costume - you will have not 1, not 2, but 4 opportunities to show it off!  Whether you want to get into the Halloween Spirit, or not, the Richland Coven of Witches Social Committee is planning to make this year one to remember.

Sunday Fall Festival- October 30th

For those of you following the Facebook updates - both trails have now been completed. The original trail, accessible behind the lower tennis courts on Quinton Rd has been resurfaced and extended with a loop.  We also added some drainage to the area that kept puddling.     

Phase 2 was also recently completed - it is accessible from the clubhouse parking lot, you will need to walk along the guardrail up Taylor road.  You can't miss it.  The image to the left is a rough approximation of the trail path - starting from the lower tennis court. The new trail is very scenic as it more closely follows the creek.  For safety, we also installed two sections with handrails.  There are two more components to the trail we are planning - so keep checking back here and on Facebook for updates..

The first is to have a bridge connecting the two trails (similar to the picture on the right).  If you  walk the trail, the area identified is where the large tree has fallen across the creek, near the end of the new trail loop.   We'll be seeking volunteers to help later this fall with assembly and placement- so  if you fancy yourself good with tools and/or can pick up heavy things without throwing out your back, shoulder, hip, or hamstring- let us know by emailing theboard@richlander.com.  Once we have a rough date, we'll let you know!   

This picture is an approximation where the bridge will be placed (short red line) as well as the final phase which will connect the new trail to the Taylor Mill neighborhood (longer red line) Because the ground is a little damp year round, this section is planned to be a combination gravel and boardwalk.  Please keep checking back here as well as on Facebook for more information.

 

Tame and Wildlife Corner

It is great seeing so many people walking your pets. This is just a reminder, we are a leash community.  So please be sure your pets are on a leash at all times when you are not in your own yard.  You may know your dog doesn't bite, but you others don't know that and prefer not to find out!  Also, please pick up after your pets. That's just common courtesy. 

 

 

 

Coyote Warning

Several residents have seen coyotes in our neighborhood.   It is especially important that you maintain control of your pets. 
Coyotes typically hunt small mammals such as mice, voles and rabbits. However, they have also been known to make a meal of a cats and smaller breed dogs.   The best way to protect your pets is to only let them outside when you are with them—especially at night—and to keep pet food and water inside.  

 

Georgia Swamp Monster

Many of you may know that there is a relatively sizelable marsh/swamp land that borders the Richland Community.   Last Halloween, many residents reported seeing what might have been a distant relative of the Okefenokee Swamp Monster here in Richland.  That's right, the Suwanee Swamp Monster was reportedly seen - witnesses say he stands about 6ft tall, is covered with moss and it's foot prints easily measured just over 12 inches long.  They also say it has a hinged jaw that is very similar to an alligator.  Just a friendly warning, be careful walking on the trails - they get pretty close to the swamp.  No sightings this year, but last October, it was seen mostly after dark, lurking in and around garages.   

  

 

RICHLAND SHARING LIBRARY

Just a reminder – we have small community library at the clubhouse. Feel free to pick up or drop off a book. If you do want to donate a book for others to enjoy, please place them on the shelves. The library is located on the pool side of the clubhouse. There is a wide variety including romance, self help, historical fiction and science fiction.

The Richland Book Club

The Richland Book Clubs meets the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7pm at the Clubhouse.  Please contact Ingrid Shell directly at ingrid.r.shell@gmail.com for more details.

This is a big shout out to the entire social committee for being the great individuals who work together seamlessly as a TEAM to bring fun to out community!

Whether it is putting up signs, decorating, creating flyers to dristribute to the neighborhood, creating feedback surveys, or calling vendors!

Our newest member Cornell Cullom was committed to making sure our children had good entertainment for the upcoming Fall Boo-Bash. He called every petting zoo between here and Alabama to find an available and affordable one, to no avail but he worked diligently. Next he pursued getting inflatables, hay rides and pony rides. Thanks to Cornell the kids will enjoy all 3 during the Boo Bash Fall Festival October 28th-30th.

The Richland Social Committee exudes TEAMWORK!

Thanks to Kathy Burnette for creating the nice flyers and Jill Jones for making ALL the copies and coordinating our distribution efforts of the flyers for the Fall Boo-Bash!

Teamwork in Action! To ensure every Richlander is well informed about The Fall Boo-Bash, each of the committee members agreed to divide and conquer to place a Boo-Bash flyers on the outside of every single mail box at each house in Richland! That is a lot of steps and speaks volumes about the commitment to the community!

Distribution of flyers started on Monday, September 26th and is scheduled to be completed by Friday, September 30th.

If you received a survey from the Richland Social Committee to get your feedback on our sponsored events, that is due to the efforts of Natasha Thompson for creating and sending the survey and managing the responses. She put together some great data that will help us better understand what our community wants in Social sponsored events. Thanks Natasha and the to the Richland residents who responded.

Richland Fire-pit  

Just a reminder, Richland has 1 community fire pit. It's located behind the tennis courts closest to the club house. There are also two park style grills as well as 4 built in benches around the pit.  Fire-pit and grills are first come first serve.  You can reserve the pavilions on either side using reservemycourt.com. Please plan to bring your own wood -and please be sure to completely put out the fire when you are finished.  There is a creek right behind the fire-pit - use as much as you need - we'll make more water! 

UPDATE:  Richland now has 4 Pickleball Courts!  Yes, you heard correctly - it's called pickleball - and it's actually not played with pickles!  After residents noted the increased growth on a Facebook discussion, the Board voted to expand the # of courts which could be used for pickleball.  Today, Richland Courts 7 and 8 are a dual Tennis/Pickleball Court (4 pickleball courts or 2 tennis courts).   You can reserve these courts on ReserveMyCourt.com; if you don't have access, more information can be found on Richlander.com.  Please note, if you have multiple RMC accounts per household, please consolidate these and create family accounts within one primary account.  Also, if you haven't done so yet, please add your address to the profile on RMC.    The board is also exploring ways to add permanent pickleball courts.  If you have any ideas, please email tennis@richlander.com.

Stay up to date with all the happenings in the Richland Community.  Download the NABR Network App for your phone, or check it out on the website.  Once you set up your account, you set your preferences to receive communications through text message alerts or opt to receive the same information via email or you can just regularly check the community feed for updates.
